Run regular to be a joyful runner
“The true joy in life comes from finding your purpose and aligning it with what you do every single day” –
Tony Robbins
I run everyday. The daily run of 5 km is a non negotiable part of my morning routine. It helps me to sweat early morning. The process of perspiration helps to activate the body systems and prepare it for a long day. And running also builds the mental agility.
I run half marathons and full marathons. But the daily runs have been the most rewarding experience. I run 5 days a week. An average daily run is 5 km. So, you can say that I am running an average of 25 km per week. And I am able to run more than 100 km in a month.
There are 5 solid benefits of running daily.
BENEFITS OF RUNNING REGULARLY
THE DAILY RUNNING IMPROVES YOUR METABOLISM.
When you commit to running on a regular basis, you will find a marked difference to how your body burns calories. Many complain that they are running and exercising but are not losing weight.
This is because of their erratic running habits. When you don’t do it daily, your body is unable to find its flow. And therefore you are unable to see any difference. Everytime you lose interest, all your credits disappear and you need to start from 0.
THE DAILY RUNNING HELPS YOU AVOID INJURIES AND STAY SAFE.
When you are running on a daily basis, your body gets accustomed to the process of running. You don’t get cramps and sores. Your legs gain strength and knees become stronger.
I have not suffered injuries so far in the last 3 years(touchwood!). And I can attribute this to my consistency. Your body machine stays oil oiled.
THE DAILY RUNNING MAKES YOUR CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM STRONGER
Good Breathing and good lung capacity is the direct result of regular exposure to running challenges. If you ran once in a week or two, your lungs would feel like bursting.
On the other hand, running every day helps your breathing gain uniformity and become better.
THE DAILY RUNNING BECOMES THE PART YOUR LIFESTYLE
I greatly feel it like a norm for me. The days I don’t go for running, my body and mind don’t feel the same. Even when I have to leave for work early or I am travelling, running or even jogging for 10-15 minutes is able to sustain my continuity.
Having found these superlative benefits that accrue to our fitness and well being, let us now understand and get to know how we can be regular runners.
So, let’s dive into 5 ways to be a daily runner.
5 WAYS TO BE A DAILY RUNNER
CREATE YOUR RUNNING PLAN
Have a goal in mind and create a plan around achieving it. Like I mentioned before, I run with my weekly and monthly targets. It helps to build focus and stay motivated. When you have a target in mind, you tend to put in your daily efforts towards achieving it.
You can use fitness apps like STRAVA to create your running plan.
I have run over 4000 km in the last 3 years. This has become possible due to my daily running.
HAVE A RUNNING GOAL IN MIND
As I mentioned above, my daily goals aligned to my annual goals helped me to exceed my expectations. When you have a goal in mind, you work with a clear purpose. And that clarity of purpose propels you in the right direction.
I have used this goal mentality to run more than 4000 kms so far. And the goal is to cross the 5000 kms mark by the end of this year.
USE RUNNING TRACKERS TO TRACK YOUR DAILY RUNS
Just simple ideas can work wonders for you. I maintain a running journal where I jot down my runs every day. I feel the joy of running while I look at my past running records. It’s a great feeling.
Past my first year of running, I upgraded myself to a Smart Watch. Smart Watches calculate everything on their own. You just tie the watch on your wrist and the rest is taken care of. Once you are done with your running, sync the data to your mobile running app.
You may also use the running apps available on your smartphone. There are plenty of apps out there. There are two that I can recommend:
HAVE A SOCIALLY ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER FOR THE DAILY RUNNING
This is one hack that has worked for me the best. The world is least bothered if you are running today or tomorrow or never. But, you can use the social pressure to create a social accountability for your daily running.
It all began with using my School Group. I started with posting my daily running scores. And they would give a thumbs up. It motivated me. It also created an impact over the others. I could see some of them beginning their own daily morning exercises.
The group kudos worked so well that I was highly motivated. Later, I started to use Insta handle and my Facebook account to just talk about running.
JOIN A RUNNING GROUP OR A COMMUNITY
When you connect with the like minded individuals, you become part of a Mastermind. And the mastermind has a better chance of keeping the commitment. So find the running communities in your local area. You can also join the Facebook groups. The daily social feed keeps us motivated and gives us tips to deal with daily running.
FIND YOUR RUNNING MOTIVATION
Sometimes, you feel down and out. You don’t feel like working out. You are either stressed too much by work or have some kind of anxiety to be better taking care of.
In such times, listening to a motivational podcast seriously helps. This is my habit to read a good book or watch a YouTube Channel to simulate your inner kingdom.
So what are you waiting for? Give me a Hi5 and let’s go for a run!
