So, this post would not have originated if I didn’t face the crunch of good. Like all good things that we realise, the beauty of home cooked meals was revealed to me when I had my last transfer. And the memories of last transfer wrt food come back to me as I get transferred again.

For the coming days, I will be forced to live away from home. I mean the family will be joining me after few months. Or may be a after longer duration. And in these days, one specific thing along with many others that I will miss is: Quality of Home Cooked Meals.

THEY ARE SACRED

You see, the home cooked food is sacred.  You don’t have to think twice before you eat at home.  On the other hand, you have to think a lot before you can zero in on a restaurant to eat or the outlet to order food from.

Reason is simple: you can pose all your trust into home cooked meals blindly. No matter who is cooking at home( we have no maids at home), it’s gonna be nice and healthy.  You don’t need to worry about anything. The ingredients, the cleanliness, the nutritional value, the menu as it is.

As I said, they are sacred. You will get fresh and warm food served in your plate.

THE INGREDIENTS

Home cooked food have the guaranty that you would be using the best possible ingredients for your body. No matter what you cook! Even if it is something exotic and/or rich, you can be double sure that you are getting the ingredients in your food that are best on planet.

Why I am saying is because you can compare the same with its counterpart in hotels and restaurants. No matter where you are staying, you can’t be fully sure that you will be served that pure.

The purity of ingredients is 101%.

NUTRITIONAL

when I think of nutrition, I can go back to my childhood days and tell you that I am proud of what my mother fed me. She always made sure that we kids are eating the freshly cooked meals.

We never had the luxury of microwaves/ refrigerators not because we knew they were not healthpro but simply because they were unaffordable.  That’s one of the reasons I think being frugal helps a fitness freak. He won’t become dependent on gadgets.

Our huge dependency of gadgets to store, cook or warm food has led to eating food items that may look fresh but they aren’t. They might have been cooked yesterday or even the day before. There are certain frozen items kept in the freezer for days together.

I don’t know how much their nutritional value is retained. But, I just follow one simple rule: Don’t eat food cooked more than 6 hours ago. And who can guaranty this except the meals cooked at home. No where else Right!

HYGIENE ANS CLEANLINESS:

We have a lot of movements going on to live in a clean nation. I have started noticing that in every nook and corner of our country. Even in small localities and the most crowded public places like railway stations, bus stands, markets etc project a more clean image than they used to be once upon a time.

But, this can not be said about the food outlets like restaurants and food outlets. You know why ?

I think that’s not possible to assure because the eater can’t access the place where the food is being cooked. With due respect to all the professionals involved with the art of cooking and serving, I know that it’s not possible to guaranty even in the best of these places( read the star category hotels and restaurants).

I will trust the food that’s cooked in front of my eyes. So, that has to be my home kitchen. Nowhere else!

SO, STAYING AWAY MEANS

It means a lot of challenge on diet front for a health seeker. While I stayed at a decent place during my last tenure as a singleton, I had realised the importance of home cooked meals more than ever before.

I was the usual kid who would throw tantrums for eating. Not this ! Not that. Not this vegetable, not this again etc. But, that posting taught me the lesson that when the home cooked food is being served on your plate, just fold your palms and express your gratitude for that.

And ever since then, I have restrained from giving a tough time to anyone at home. Jo bhi mila, uske liye shukriya. ( What ever is offered on plate, I am thankful for that).

As I have to again get myself into that state, I am pulling up my socks to be my own chef.  The last 5 years were pretty well with lots of sweet memories at home. Specially with respect to eating and cooking.

I am sure my degree in hoteliering will surely come to my rescue as I am planning to find a house and cook for myself.   I may not be cooking that tasy food but I would be able to feed healthy nutrition to my body. And to my soul !
