I wanted to improve myself.
This is what propelled me in the direction of personal well-being & Fitness. And it has been more than & years. I have learnt somewhere that it takes 07 years for anyone to completely change himself or herself. Alternatively, you become a totally different person biologically in a span of 07 years. This is the time span it takes to fully replace all our cells and tissues with new ones.
I am glad to share that I am indeed such a different person today than I was seven years ago. So, this post is dedicated to reflecting on the 07 years journey of fitness and well- being. Through this post, I will tell you what I have gained or what has been the great benefits of this beautiful journey of the last 07 years.
To being with I would say, I found myself. Yes, indeed!
Lots of Energy Now!
I am more of what I wanted to be today than I used to be 7 years ago. I always wanted to not look fit but feel the fitness inside me. I can say that because if you ask me to come for a run at the fag end of the day after a long day at work, you would found me lacing up my shoes and ready for a quick 10 kilometers run. This is the Energy level that I enjoy today.
07 years ago, it used to a sad story. I would be drained out by the time I reached home. My whole body will be writhing with pain. The back will ache. The head will spin giving me the feeling of giddiness. I did not know anything about the flow of energy and how it takes place.
Our body is nothing but a packet of energy. And we don’t realize how beautiful it has been created to energize it. The biggest drainer of energy is the enormous amount of stress we weight on our minds. On the one hand, we don’t understand how to handle stress and on the other, we don’t know how to become a mentally tough person. Marathon running has been a great tool to learn to keep with the highest levels of stress and become not just a physically strong person but a mentally strong person too.
Building a Strong Character
Marathon running is not about the PBs or PRs or number of events you participate to take the selfies, it’s about building a strong character. Because running a marathon does not need talent yet you need a plethora of mental, physical and spiritual traits to finish it. When you have run a distance of 42 kms and been out on the roads for more than 5 hrs pushing the limits, what do you think a person would behave like after a long day at work?
Finding and living through Passion
If you are a sports person and running marathons, then that’s your profession. But when you do something that is not your profession and still decide to do it because that’s what you identify yourself with then that’s called passion! Boys, you need passion to have a blast at life. People think that they will do such and such a thing when they would have the sufficient time to do. For such people, the whole life passes through the front of your eyes like a meteor. You can only make a wish, not live.
Whereas if you decide to live your passion, you decide to do what you love despite your day job, your family and your other limitations. The more passion you are living through, the better you will experience your life to be.
The Habit of Showing up: Consistency
One of the best things that I have learnt in these 07 years is: Show Up!
Getting on the race tracks is half the job done. Getting there is not easy. And this is where people miserably fail at. They have fancy dreams and ambitions to validate themselves to the society. But they don’t know where to begin. You begin with scratch by just showing up every day on time. To get ready and go for a run every day, day after day, year after year, I have realized that you only do that if it is something that you love, not fear.
And finally Love not Fear rules my life
People who pick up fitness due fear of falling ill never get far! They would give up sooner or later because they fear illness but at the same time they can detach themselves from the cheap thrills of life. They face a lot of inner conflict to find clarity but they never get there because fearful minds are greedy minds too. You see one negative trait attracts another just the way one positive trait attracts another. I started to love running and that made me become an early morning riser. Today, I sleep at night like a baby and get up early when the world is still sleepy and I can’t wait to start living my life again.
