New Place, New Aspirations

This is my new place of work. I joined here just a few months back. The workplace is better as I am having a much more peaceful life. This is more of an administrative desk job than fieldwork.

After moving here, I was so curious about the place. I didn’t know how the place was going to be. I was pretty comfortable in my old place as I had my running routes figured out. And they were awesome.

Bhopal Lake

Bigger cities have bigger problems.  That’s what I thought about Bhopal too. But, to my pleasant surprise, this is still in its glory. I could spot a lot of green patches all around. Even the heart of the city is filled with trees and green gardens. The roads are lined up with trees and new plants all along.

No wonder they have their Institute of Forest Management here which is the only of its kind in India. And I have been lucky to find a place far from the madding crowd. This is one corner of the city where the city transitions into the countryside.

I have a very beautiful window view too. And there is calmness. I don’t hear the honkings of vehicles or the planes or the crowds. Calm and serene where you would hear the chirping of birds in the mornings and the barking of dogs at night.

Lots of things have changed here. I have become a forced bachelor. The forced bachelorship implies that I will be looking after the home chores myself. Dusting, brooming, mopping, cleaning, cooking, washing etc etc.

New Bachelorhood begins – Shut Up and Read and Run

My last forced bachelorship happened in 2018 when I had begun my fitness journey. So, I am curious and wondering if this forced bachelorship is going to take my game to another level. Will I be creating my new PB/PR record in running the TMM

I don’t know but I am curious and trying to figure out how I can put this time that I am going to get here. Time is the most precious asset we have in this world. And you can’t afford to take it away. All the cribbings could disappear if we know how to value our time and invest it to the best of our aspirations.

I have bought a couple of books to begin with. Here is a short list of books I have purchased to read on fitness and well-being.

  1. The power of one thought
  2. Don’t lose out, work out.
  3. Shut up and train
  4. Kaizen The Japanese method of transforming Habits

Someone has rightly said, ‘’Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body”. I truly feel that reading is the best workout for your mind.

These books are great. I have the other 3 books of Rujuta Mam. So, Don’t lose out, work out was a default choice. I had to pick it up when I spotted this book at the bookchor mahasale. The second book, Shut Up and Train is my new discovery. The author, Deanne Pandey is a personal trainer to Bollywood’s fittest humans – Shahrukh, Bipasha, John Abraham. So, I thought I must try and see what she has been feeling for them to be so fit. Shut up and Read books

B K Shivani is a good speaker who delivers lovely speeches on mental health. Her ideas resonate with me. So, I picked up this book, The Power of One Thought and it’s a great book for understanding your thoughts and thought processes.  I am reading this book to have a better mental state when I run my marathon next year.

The fourth book, Kaizen by Sarah Harvey is about the Japanese philosophy of doing things incrementally to achieve startling results. I have browsed the internet several times to find some gems in this philosophy. Indeed, it helped me to find consistency and regulation in my fitness journey without which nothing is possible. So, I wanted to keep this book just to keep reminding myself that even a small tiny effort every day will pile up and eventually compound.

Shut up and read

Instead of telling myself that I don’t have time in the world to do what I would love to do, I have decided to shut up and read books. There is a lot of technology around us. Therefore, living by reading books for certain hours a day could be a good escape from the undue stress caused by social media networks and WhatsApp Varsity!

Reading and writing more on my blog is certainly going to be there apart from intensified running. Last Sunday I got the wonderful opportunity to run a half marathon. And lay lazy all day without work, exercise, and hogging lots of food!

Living every day with energy and positivity is a good way to live. What are your thoughts? What are you doing with your time and energy?
