The word loneliness is very trending in these times. It has turned out to be the number one mental health issue. And the people worst affected, surprisingly are living in the middle of abundant material wealth.

Just the other day, I read about a Twitter post. A person had posted about an auto driver who actually was an engineer by profession. But, to kill his loneliness and get some social life, he was ferrying people from one place to another, anticipating some interaction with human life in flesh and blood.

I have often been thinking about this topic. Why ? Why are people falling lonely? Why is that ?

I think the reason for such loneliness is the doing of their own work. Our humankind has turned techno -savvy so that we can not only hear but see and interact real time with anyone and anywhere at any time. But, unfortunately this has taken the steam out of genuine and natural interactions between people.

Living in big cities is all about our work. You don’t know who your next door neighbor is. You may be well connected with the person sitting on the other side of the globe. But, you may have a tough time knowing your own neighborhood. This technology called – connecting people has actually blown us away from our deep social life.

We are social beings and we need real live interactions which are not virtual but which are face to face. People who are sitting next to us, people whom we can see with our naked eyes, touch and even smell.

These days I don’t see much of this kind of social living. Whether you are at a bus stand or a railway station or even travelling in a metro or any other place, the human interactions are becoming less people intensive. You don’t need the counters at these stations because you can get it all done through App on your smart phone.

Even the market is now a virtual world. You shop on the phone and not on the busy streets any longer. Do you?  Just open your favourite shopping app and order it from anywhere, anytime. And it drops at your door step in a matter of few days.

I totally understand that we do need tech but not at this level that we have we are sleeping with tech! Get out there and live a good damn good life with people. Be raw, be real!

Loneliness among the youth is something which is increasing every day. Why ? Because they have reduced themselves to be the slaves of machines. They just want to type some codes and get everything done by them. God save the human kind.

I know I am typing this on my smartphone to reac out to you but I know my limits. If you are still wondering why I am writing all this on a fitness blog then you seriously need to get away from your phone and get a life.

It’s perfectly ok to be mechanical. Don’t reduce yourselves to few clicks here and there to live. Walk on your feet and run! Go and sit under the shade of a tree. Go out and spend some time with nature. Do your chores at home. Make your bed, cook your food and dust your room!

The loneliness will escape you. And leave you with your people around you.  You will breath fresh air ! And you will see the sunshine ! They are important ingredients not just for your body but for your heart as well.

Don’t just laugh at the stand ups beaming in youtube. Spend an evening with your friend and laugh at each other’s idiosyncrasies !

So, if you are one person who has ever experienced even the shadow of so called loneliness, you need not worry. You still stand a chance to come out of it.

Your loneliness is actually your emptiness inside you. You are so much connected with the world around you that your heart might be losing its beats that are internal. Fill your inside , not the house with the gadgets!

Pursuing a hobby. Pick up a sport. And for that you have to get away from this freaking device! You are tethered to it. Break yourself from this bondage.
