Before we begin and get into the conversation, I would like to draw your attention to a picture of me taken 8 years apart.
This is me. 8 years apart.
The one on the left is me at age 32 years. I was then weighing close to 96 Kgs(approx . 211 lbs). And the one that you see on the right is again me! But a lot smarter, sexier, and full of life. These days, I weight around 77(169 lbs) Kgs. And this is more or less how I look.
Bringing down my weight from 96 Kg(211) to 77 Kg(169 lbs) has been the story of my transformation. There are many great things that have happened to me since then. My next level of fitness has led me to grow mentally and spiritually too. Our fitness determines our happiness to a large extent and I am witness to that!
The huge transformation in the way I look today and the way I carry myself has become possible due to a lot of factors. In the process of getting my self more agile and looking better, I went deep within to understand myself and my daily activities. The things that I did in the morning, day and evening.
Everything that we do on a daily basis influences our fitness. For example, the position in which you sit on your chair at workplace every day! Imagine, sitting 8 hours daily for every other day and that runs into several years. So, what you are doing unconsciously is a major component of your fitness.
I started to take note of every small thing that I did: he way I stand, the way I sit, the way I lie down and the way I drive my car etc. When I took note of these activities, I was totally blown away by the impact they had on my overall fitness.
Once upon a time, it was difficult for me to run for more than 2 km( less than a mile). When I started to men those small things, I could clearly see the line of difference. I had my wake up call. I was doing so many things in the wrong ways!
And now at 42, I am running marathons. I am stronger and more powerful. My body can withstand a lot of heat of hardship. Even at the end of the day where I used to be totally drained out, I am now a totally different being – A happy human being.
Now, I am able to spend time with my kids and play with them happily in the evenings. And this has become possible by raising my fitness levels. And this is the single most rewarding source of happiness for me at this age. I feel a lot more younger and lively.
Running is now my daily act of kindness to me! In 2018 and 2019, I kept a target of running 1800 km(1118 miles) in each year and have met them with roaring success.
So, here I share with you 4 pearls of wisdom that I have drawn out of my story of transformation. I hope that they will be helpful to you to understand yourself and build your own story of transformation.
4 Pearls of Wisdom to transform your physical fitness:
1. THE WAY WE LIVE IS THE WAY WE WILL LOOK ABD FEEL – CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE.
Most of the people by the age of 40 years starts to look pale and exhausted. They have their tummies as their big assets that is the first thing that becomes visible to the onlooker.
And the reason is not far to seek. At age 32, my life was a hell to me without me realising this crude fact. I would get up from bed with a spinning head. I would put off the alarm several times before I will be compelled by an urgency to leave for office.
I would tell myself, “Why Hurry, when II can sleep more. ” So, I would mute the alarm and go to sleep.
And this is just an example, I had grown very lazy. I would feel it like a pain if I was required to get up from my chair to reach out to that file in the almirah some 21 meters (20 yards) away.
In short I would say, I had adopted to the Sedentary way of living. I was now no more interested in physical activities. Though, I was never a sports guy but I used to make the efforts to keep my weight under check.
The sedentary mode of living that involves no physical labour renders one physically immobile. We apparently become handicapped. And this can gradually lead us in the direction of attracting life style diseases.
2. NO EXERCISE IS THE NORM THESE DAYS – DEVELOP A CULTURE AT HOME TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND WORK OUT.
Most of our actions are driven by Social Pressure. More so in the age of Social Media. What we are constantly reading, watching and following becomes our subconscious.
As you hit your middle age of 30s and 40s, you start to drift away from exercising. Simply because there are no social compulsions. There is no pressure to look good or be physically fit.
You are now married for years. You have got kids. So, you tend to think that all you need to do before you die is carry on the business of living by feeding the family and keeping them happy.
Making money and finding respect in society through riches is all that you long for. Obviously, long hours at work so that you can rise up the corporate ladder and make fortunes. Our job preferences are majorly driven by the amount of money that it will fetch than anything else.
There is no thought on the work-life balance preferences. Exercise is reduced to a word that now exists only in dictionary. Until one day, some thing strikes you so bad that you are forced to scratch up your brain cells and look for the reasons.
3. OUR EATING IS CONTROLLED BY OUR TASTEBUDS – EAT FOR NUTRITION THAN TASTE.
Adding to the woes of not exercising is uncontrolled and an unscientific approach to eating. So much that the philosophy to live by is:
“My Life is a waste if I can’t savour the great delicacies on this material earth”
Our taste buds dictate our eating habits – what to eat when to eat, and how much to eat.
Let me share with you my experience of how I attained 96 kg of super weight. When I wold reach home after a long day at work, I would ask my wife to cook the best delicious dishes. All that oily and fat rich content laden with high amount of junk properties.
It gave me a kind of relief from the stress at work. I was supposed to de-stress myself by bringing in work-life balance. But, hogging good and satisfying my taste buds was the shortest route to instant gratification.
When there is no burning of calories due to lack of exercising and there is an overload of uncontrolled eating, the least that you can expect to happen to yourself is disproportionate growth in your weight and spoiler in your fitness.
Our body is a temple and what we eat should be treated as an offering to the divinity within.SanjuRuns

4. NO MOTIVATION FOR WORKOUTS AND EXERCISE – READ, WATCH AND WITNESS THE FITNESS CULTURE TO GET MOTIVATED.
One thing that really pushes me hard is my deep desire to keep fit. Fitness beckons you with so many advantages. In fact, you live on a different level altogether.
The way you walk, the way you turn around and the way you look up into the eyes of the others – every act I treat from an angle of fitness.
Being a banker has never stopped me to look like a Navy Seal or Special Op Cop. I love to work on getting those kinda looks. They are my drives. I eulogize sports legends and follow them on Social Media.
The model and super models amaze me more for what they eat to stay that way than their physical appearance. I always wondered what is the secret of their killer looks. My exploration has led me to separate wheat from the chaff. Fakery has found its way out and I have real life legends showing me the way every day.
Fitness of the minds and the body is my inner quest. These are the treausres to unlimited happiness that I have been led to discover after hitting the mid life crisis.
So, my drive comes through genuine understanding of the mind, body and the action required to bring them together.
So, these are the pearls of wisdom that I felt like sharing with you. I would be most delighted if you can add to the list!
